I went by one of those speed indicators about two months ago doing 34mph and the indicator read 34mph as well.

S2K4ever, it may be that you are not going fast enough to see the difference.
Believe me folks as you go faster you will see more error.

I wonder who makes the Vehicle Speed Sensor for our car? Adjustable signal modifier that I looked into may just correct any errors or even make it work to your advantage. I have one sitting at my room collecting dust. My mechanic didn't think it will work with a awkward placement. Anyone want to take a crack at it?
I will send it to anyone who will be serious to take a look and play with it.

Some time ago the cops over here were pushing for zero tolerance in speeding
ie. 31mph in a 30 zone would get you a ticket
This prompted some magazines to test the accuracy of speedometers in various cars. The general findings were that at low speeds (<30mph) the car would report a slower than actual speed, at higher speed (>40mph) it would report a higher speed. Bottom line was these things are not exactly precision equipment.

Mine GPS'ed at 2mph high also. I have stock wheel-tire size (remember if you have different size from stock the reading will be off). BTW, does anyone know how to calibrate the speedo on an S2k? It does seem some of us are being cheated out of some warranty.

So, basically, most of our cars don't really have as many miles on them as the Odometer reads? Imagine those who are leasing and have to pay for miles over...

Maybe it's time to upsize the wheel/tire to get a .5-1% larger diameter...

With all of the uncertainty about the accuracy, I went on a short cruise with GPS in hand. I have a stock '02 and took various readings from 15MPH to 125MPH (strictly in the interest of science). I found my speedo to be within 1MPH at all speeds checked.

Now I will have to take a longer trip to check the odometer accuracy. The things I do for the good of the group....
