I notice some posters discussing that they just hate for people to pass them, and must have the upper-hand on any speed thing.
I can only suppose these are U.S. writers where speed is normally (if I recall correctly from 35 yrs. ago!) from a deadstop at the corner traffic light, so the danger level is not so high.
In Europe, where everyone is travelling on the highways at speeds above 90 mph (150kph)in usually quite heavy traffic, challenging someone can be a life threatning situation, as you will soon be in the 120 mph area.
When I have my top down (most of the time now!), I tend to go even slower than top-up speeds as the sensation of speed is even sharper with all the wind & noise (love it!). It's more a thing of KNOWING I can leave someone behind if I were to feel like it than actually DOING IT! At least that's a safer attitude, and I hope it will guarantee me years more of happy driving.
Perhaps not being a "young-un", I don't need to prove anything either.

I agree 100%. If there is a lot of traffic on the roads, I tend to slow down and let other people act crazy. I only "Have Fun" with my S2K if I am sure I will not be a danger to others, I know I'm a danger to myself, and easly could kill myself during highspeed testruns, but I dont think its right to put others at risk for my pleasure. I dont think I could live with myself if I hurt someone else because I was having fun.

I feel like some of my bragging replies have not gone unnoticed...
It's always a very difficult point of view to defend, but speed, while being an aggravating factor in case of accident, can also be used with precaution and awarness, especially in a good car (good handling & brakes can help...).
I do drive on european highwyas between 170 & 230 kmh, mre often around 180-190, especially when I pass other cars or trucks, but the level of concentration I'm on is VERY high. I don't talk to my passenger (anyway it' too loud ), I keep both my hands on the wheel, I'm always in the right gear (no 80mph in 6th!) to get the maximum traction, I anticipate, and when it rains...well I just let everyone pass me!
170-230kmh = 105-143mph
180-190kmh = 112-118mph

LeCar,
I agree with you 100%, and I just have to know, who makes the little S2000 you've got pictured there? I'd love to have one that small in my cube at work.
