That is interesting. My daughter for whom I am car shopping lives in Durango, Colorado! AWD Subarus or Elements would be very good for this area. However, I am finding these at only at considerably higher prices than the $16,500 for the Scion. Enough to make a difference to her, in her financially-challanged situation. If there are any deals out there on Subarus or Elements that bring the price down to this level, I can't find them. If you know of any "deals" please let me know.
More on topic, I think the S2k would not be a good choice for this area. As we all know, the S2k does poorly on snow. And, I'm sure the thin air at high altitudes would rob it of power big time!
Thanks,
Richard

A one or two year old certified Element should be WELL within her price structure. Particularly if she doesn't get the top model. I am looking at 2002 Subaru's and they are very near to the price. I would rather have a 2002 WRX or RS than a new Scion. That's just my personal choice. Others may feel differently.
The other thing for me, is that there is not a Scion dealer near me for me to even have a good look at the vehicles. After owning a Land Rover, I swore I wouldn't buy another vehicle without a local dealer to support it. Aftermarket service in my area is very poor.
I will be looking to live more in the Cheyenne/Laramie/Ft Collins area. Wyoming is a far cheaper place to live than N. Colorado.

Thanks, I'll check it out. After all, Subaru has been called "The State Car of Colorado!" There is a Toyota dealer in Durango, and they service Scion. But there is also a Subaru dealer to service those. And I agree that real estate prices are pure hell anywhere in Colorado.
Thanks,
Richard
