Default speaker problem

Hey guys. i hope this is the correct place for this question, if not i appologize.

i have a used 02 S2K and the person before me replaced the stock speakers with Polk speakers. he ran then all into an amp with the use of a RC adapter so the stock head unit was left intact. the problem is that the adapter isnt very good and sometimes the speakers dont play at all and more commonly only the right side works. is there any simple fix to make the stock wiring work and just remove the amp? also can anyone give me instructions on removing the stock head unit? im scared of messing something up but i need to see how the RC adapter is connected. thanks much.

Funny - I've got a 2002 Sebring/Red, and I changed the stock speakers for Polks, too!

Pulling out the radio is not hard - just takes some care. Go to http://www.lucidauto.com and check out the installation notes section. It's possible that you could unplug the additional wiring behind the radio, and plug the original harness back into the radio and get the wiring back to stock.

i think i mean RCA adapter.

thanks for the link. the adapter makes it so that the amp will have rca jacks to go to since the stock head unit does not so theres no unplugging and re plugging. im going to have to rewire it i think. anyone know what colors the speaker wires are in the harness?

Well I suspect that the rear speakers were driven by the amp. The stock headunit harness does not have wiring for the rears, though Lucid (the site I sent you to) sells an adapter. If you're removing the amp, you probably need this adapter. It's only $45, and very easy to install.

Glad I could help.

the person already had it. thats what i disconnected to get it working properly. i think ill wait untill tomorrow before removing the harness then reinstalling it without the use of the amp so i know that it was all put in properly. thank you so much, you have no idea how much of a frusteration not having a radio 90% of the time has been for me.

I suggest going over and looking at the FAQ in the electronics section. You should find the info you are looking for.
