Default Spark plug recall in Japan...

I don't know whether you have had a similar thing in the US (or elsewhere yet), or whether this will definitely affect you or not, but I thought I would let you know that I have just received a recall notification from Honda, stating that there is a spark plug problem with model years '00-'02 and that I need to contact my nearest dealer to get some rectification work carried out.

I don't have any details as yet, as the recall is in Japanese and I have only had a brief translation given to me, but I will keep you informed of any additional info I get.....

I have read something similar on this forum for the US. I called my dealer and they said they knew nothing of it...yet. I'll wait a couple weeks and call again. Thanks for the heads-up from Tokyo.

james, they have not issued an official recall here, they have just made it a TSB. It's come up a lot recently, just do a search and you'll see what I mean.

Is the dealer obligated to fix the problem if it is a TSB? Or do we have to wait for a formal recall? My dealer implied "I would hear from Honda if there were a recall".

I wish they made it a recall...we've seen some of the damage it's done to people's motors. I guess they didn't want the negative publicity that goes along with a recall.

The dealer is not required to fix a TSB unless you display symptoms. However, the key in this case seems to be that this is a "product/part update" which applies regardless of whether you display symptoms or not. Hence, the dealer must/will fix it. If not, go to another dealer.

Problem at the moment seems to be (aside from the apparently really bad communication between Honda and their dealers) that the replacement parts are not widely available, yet.
