Default sorry if a repost but will someone clarify these tranny problems

i'm thinkin of getting an s2000 but the only thing i'm worried about is the tranny on certain years. i was told that 99-01 or 02 have 2 cone synchros and 02 or 03 have three cone. i was also told that the 2 cone synchro trannys were going out and the warranty was blaming it on abuse even though when the problem began to occur they seemed to fix it with the three cone. someone please clarify so i can buy with confidence.

The trannies for 99-03 should all be quite similar. Gears 1 and 3 have double cone synchronisers, and second gear is equipped with triple cone jobs. The second gear grind that many people get doesn't have much of a solution despite service bulletins, different tranny fluid and so on.

I can't say much about the '04 tranny, except that word is they beefed it up somehow. Not sure if it fixed all the grinding problems of the earlier cars.
