Sometimes, after a slow roll, you need to double clutch to get the reverse gear to engage, even if you are pushing down. It's a protective feature inside the tranny that completely locks out reverse. This occurs MOSTLY during extremely slow driving (ie parking.)
i will try it both ways. i always push down first.

Sometimes I find myself having to put the car in 1st gear then going back to reverse for smoother engagement. This is probably my 7th manual tranmission Honda and I've had to do this occassionally on all of them.

I do the same thing as SDSILVERM3. Just put it into another gear (I do first) then try again. It is even worse on my toyota pickup. I dont usually have trouble with the S though. I have never owned a mnual transmission that likes to go into gear. Oher than my S that is, and on top of that, it only gives me trouble once in a blue moon so it really isnt even a bother for me. Putting it in another gear should help though.

I thought you were just so push it down to move it over, your suppose to push it down while putting it in reverse as well? That could be the problem. I'll try the other things as well. Thanks guys. And yes it's my first 6sp. I've had several 5sp and still have one.

Yep, that's your problem then. Keep it down until it's in gear. The gate for reverse is "lower".

Thanks guys! Good to know it's my fault and it's not the trans.
