I would definitely put it on insurance. Earlier this year my car was broken in to with a total damage and contents claim of roughly $16,000. I just switched unsurance companies and they couldn't have cared less about about it.

Rate increases to your (and everyone else's) insurance based on your address happen on the back end if your neighborhood is notorious.

They typically want to know what YOU'VE done to put them at risk for liability.
$16,000 what all got stolen/damaged?!?!?

I had my top replaced when it was cut, the cost including the stock radio was just under 4k parts and labor, the original warranty for the top continues if replaced by a honda dealer

Thanks for all the input guys. I guess I'm going to file a police report and pay the deductible. This is way too expensive. And 4k for radio and top?? That's ridiculous...

I'm just pissed how I have to pay so much b/c some fishcunt decided to slash my top. I seriously hate how ghetto Berkeley is sometimes. I had my antenna jacked, rear bumper hit, and now my top slashed in the past 5 months here.

oem ap2 soft-top in canada costs $1700 + 9hrs labor... total close to 2700 after taxes etc. So buy a top online, install it yourself... and then buy some volks with the left over

Doesn't insurance send a check directly to the body shop that's doing the repairs? How do you guys get the money directly from insurance?

Damage to the car was the start button was stolen and instrument cluster removed. Window trim was bent and the window pulled out so they could unlock the door. For the start button and cluster they had to replace the whole dash because of a few broken clips and scratches, wiring harnesses and obviously the missing parts.

There was something like $5-7K worth of cost in repairing and replacing. The bigger money was the items I had in the trunk after returning from a trip late at night. They picked a good night because within 4 hours of me pulling the car in the driveway they had stolen my laptop, all my dvds and cds, 2 digital camera, brand new OBD2 reader, snowmobile helmet, all kinds of misc technology, etc all done totalled up to roughly $9 grand.

I got slashed last week and insurance paid 2 grand. Make sure you point out your door dings "That the thief made while leaning into the car." Got an extra 75 for that. Also if the cops dusted for prints INSIDE your car, another 75 for detailing.

I had a 500 deductible so the check was made for 1,500.

Your rates should not go up directly, and if your complex filed more the reason. Only risk u run is being investigated for fraud, but with all the reports ull be golden.
Not a collision loss so shoudlnt drop the value of ur car, if anything it should raise it as tops do not last forever.
I wish someone slashed my top, sigh.
