Someone cut my top :(

Someone cut my top :(
I have had to park on the street for the last month do to a temporary change in my living arrangements. When I got up yesterday I noticed a large gash in my plastic rear window of my 2001 GPW. I had just hand washed the car the day before so I know the rear window and top were in perfect condition (well good conditions with no bad signs). It looks like someone took a knife and cut down the center of the window. I was planning on calling the insurance agent Monday and filing a police report if necessary.
I was wondering if anyone else how has had this problem could give me any pointers. Also would it be possible to just replace in window and not the top? I have full coverage and there is no detectable for glass but the window is plastic. Maybe I won't be charged a deductible if they replace it with a glass one? I am also not sure if their is a deductible with vandalism.
I am just very irritated about the situation because I would never do something to someone else's property on propose and to me it clearly looks like someone took a sharp object to it (although im no expert). And I hate to bring it up but there have been lots of problems ever since their started to be government subsidized housing in the area.

If you take it to Honda dealership to get a quote on the replacement, it will probably be around $2k or more. After your deductible, you could get an EZ-On or Robbins top with a glass window upgrade, install it yourself, and pocket $1k or more. You could also just get a replica HT with that kind of dough...

My insurance company wanted me to pay an extra $300 on top of our deductible do to the "depreciation" of the convertible top. Took a few phone calls and a lot of swearing but we just paid the deductible. Take it to a trim shop and they should knock down your deductible down or remove it completely, Honda will never do this.

Ill try to take a picture tomorrow if i can get a hold of a camera. The top was up and I noticed it when I walked out to the car so I don't think it was from putting it up or down.

That sucks... the same situation happened to by friends S2000. The only advise i can give you is stick with the OEM roof. Push the insurance agent to make this happen even if it costs a few extra bucks. The knock off roof's don't hold a candle to the OEM and they fit like crap.

Well I brought it to a local honda dealer. They said it looked like the window was punctured by something several times. They are going to call me back with different options for replacement. It looks like it is going to cost a lot but it sounds like my insurance will pay for most of it. I might just have to put off getting it fixed for a while though. I think I might be able to do a temporary fix. I don't have to park in the street anymore anyways and I almost always have the top down unless it is raining or just to put it up when I park.
thanks for all the input everyone. you guys helped me ease my mind about this tough situation.
