Hello.

I am new to this forum, and as the subject of this post suggests, I am looking to get an S2K.
I have just sold one of the greatest car I have owned so far (I am 26 years old) a 1994 Porsche 968 coupe (240HP, 240Lbft, 6speed,etc...) because the maintenace bills were way too high (spent $2500/year). The car was a blast to drive and looked really good, but parts/maintenance were just too much.
Now that I am in the market for a new/used car, I have a couple of questions for you S2K owners:
Do some of you use the car as a daily driver? If so how good/bad is it in the winter ( I live in No. CA and bad weather is not a real concern)?
How expensive is it to maintain the car?
Any issues I should be aware of with the car?
I am 6"2, 190Lbs, would I fit confortably with the top on?
Finally, does anyone regret buying the S2K?

Thanks for all your reply. I thought that my next replacement would be a 4 door, practical car (read Audi, BMW,etc...), but I am still young and after dricvng a performance car for a while, it is virtually impossible to go back to a sedan...

I am a proud owner of a daily driver S2K. The car runs great......Compares to your 968 you stil gonna have your sporty fun plus with a cheaper maintance bill. Its lack of Torque but as long as you have no problem reving your engine you be fine with it. THe car is design to be revved.

CANT WAIT TILL YOU GET ON BOARD!

Maintenance is really cheap. I just change the oil ($30 at the dealer or DIYS) and add fuel).
As for issues, it's wicked fun to drive
You've got plenty of headroom top up or down.
It's my only personal car and I have never regreted it.

Cheers

I agree with the two above. Its my only car, the only one I want or need. So much fun, so little maintainence.

You will look like this ------------> when you get the S2000.

My last car was a 944S - 2 generations behind your 968, but a similar vehicle. I know what you mean about maintenance! I spent over $5k in a year and a half.

The S2000, like all Hondas, cost practically nothing to maintain. Oil changes are $30, not $75+. My 15000 mile checkup cost $130. The only relatively high maintenance item are the tires; rears are $500 and only last 8-16k miles, depending on how you drive. No timing belt to worry about, it uses a chain.

All in all it's a much more enjoyable ownership experience. You can drive the hell out of the car and not feel like you're "using it up".

Mine's my daily driver and I have no regrets whatsoever.

Good luck making your decision!

Thank you all for the replies!

So now I have to decide between getting a 2002 (at MSRP... I cannot imagine paying a cent more) or a used 2001.

The 2002 do have the rear glass window which is nice during those rainy days.

Thanks again. I look forward to be part of this enthusiastic community.

Jalbrah,
You should start watching the SF Bay Area Forum under the clubs section(see top of this page) You will find that we are quite active and have lunch meets, and drives on a regular basis. You should come out and meet the other owners, and I'm sure you could talk one of us in to a drive. What part of nothern Cal are you in?

Thanks for the offer Andy!

I would be delighted to meet some S2K owners in the Bay Area.

The Porsche Club I used to join was quite active as well.

I actually live in Brisbane and work in South City.

One question for you (I actually posted it on the Bay Area forum, but no one responded yet):
Would you know a reputable dealer in the area that would sell an S2K for MSRP (or less ).

Thanks,

JH
