Soft top cracked, time for hard top?
So, I put my top up while it was like 30 degrees outside and the back plastic window split. I have a Robbins top but was quoted $1020 in labor to install it. How much can I get a new good hard top for and from where? I mean damn, I like the convertible top and all but if I can get a hard top for around that price I may just go that direction.
Also, are hard tops easy to install? I'm fairly handy.

Do not get a Chaser hardtop! You will regret it later on, and then probably end up buying a different top or selling it.
I got the VIS mugen replica top and it has perfect fitment. I got mine from gbperformance on here, an Chin has to been one of the best vendors on this forum. They are only $1250 shipped with all hardware, the upgraded rear seal, and their brand new upgraded door seals. You cant ask for more for that price. I'm painting mine Berlina Black and its going to be $300, so thats not bad.
He just started another group buy, so you better jump aboard if your wanting one!

OP depending where you live maybe see if any people on the forum can do the soft top install for you if you don't want to do it yourself.
$1,020 is a lot of the install. Locals to me will do it for around $400 and have a great track record.

There is a a DIY top replacement here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99683 and I think there's another one floating around. I don't think the top replacement is hard, just time consuming. I don't think it requires any special tools either.
If I were you, like suzuka-blue-s2k suggested, pick up that VIS hard top for $1200. If you want to replace the soft top still, set aside a weekend, call up a friend or two, buy a case of beer, and replace your soft top using those instructions. Shouldn't be bad.

You can check craigslist, ebay, or the forums here. Also, http://www.ecrater.com/p/5262680/vis-racin...iberglass-mugen ($900 before shipping), http://www.autobarber.com/product/p-1201-2...s-hard-top.aspx ($825).
Got these from http://www.google.com/search?q=s2k+vis+har...iw=1512&bih=728
