Ive noticed, the ap1 cars hit vtec alot more noticibly, it when the higher lift lobes engage the car changes character completely,

The ap2 transistions much smoother. im sure the engineers worked with the cam phasing, ignition timing, and probably dbw, to make the tranisition smooth as possible.

in my ap1, in the wet, accellerating around a hard turn, hitting vtec is enough to pop the back out on me and through the car off balance.

I wish there was some way for you to see the car; Pictures just don't do it justice.
It was bumperless, and sported 7 coats (4 color, 3 clear) of hand rubbed Chocolate Brown lacquer. The bodywork and paint were so smooth that they threw reflections like a mirror. Hahaha, the paint job on the car was worth more than the car itself. It was the first car I ever owned that attracted sponsors (the S2000 is the second), and even with all the mods, the little car was as reliable as a stone. LOL, well, I did go through wheel bearings faster than tires, but the setup put extra stress on the bearings so we expected them to need frequent replacement and just considered it a "wear item." The car was reliable in that it rarely had any kind of unexpected failure or breakdown.

But to get this back on topic, the X would have been much easier to drive in traffic if there had been some way to change the cam profiles to something milder for lower speed operation, and *that's* the big deal about VTEC.

I can do that, because I don't have to worry about people who can't deal with the car and let the abrupt transition get them into trouble, but Honda has to consider "the general public." If you think hitting VTEC mid turn in first or second gear is a potential problem in a stock S2000, you should try it in an S2000 with a centrifigual blower
My exact thoughts. The SC just amplifies all the qualities of the car that made it so appealing to me in the first place. There are plenty of other cars with dead smooth delivery of power. It's the Jeckyl and Hyde nature of this car that puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

There are a host of things about the car that put a smile on my face, and the transition from Jeckyl to Hyde is definitely one of them.
