Maybe it is brand loyalty for some -- I wouldn't know as brand loyalty doesn't mean anything to me since corporations have no concept of customer loyalty. I just enjoy the VTEC transition. I will say that if overzealous enthusiasm for a product bothers you then you won't want to be on any S2000 forum site.
VTEC isn't over rated; It's totally misunderstood, as can easily be seen by reading the posts in this thread. The shame of it is that this is an S2000 forum and you'd think at least those who own the car would have at least an inkling. Pretty sad that so many here own the car and still don't have a clue, because ignorant owners make the entire community look stupid to outsiders.

I know VTEC isn't overrated and I have my Dyno chart to prove it:

something doesn't make sense.....
HOLY SHIET! How are you making 900hp with only 50ft lbs of torque!!!! OMG.... (9000rpm * 50ft/lbs ) / 5252 = 85HP!! You have a crazy car my friend...

[QUOTE=kndonlee,May 15 2008, 12:54 PM] This is a whole topic altogether, however what I'm getting at is that it's misunderstood and misrepresented as a power adding feature and that annoys the hell out of me.

Anyone that understands a torque/power curve will realize that VTEC doesn't cure cancer. For the rest of the population, well, it's like anything else that isn't understood: an assumption is made, and stories are built off of it. In this case, because of the sound it makes under transition, the name "VTEC", and other factors, a "positive" story gets built. While you're annoyed, I'm sure Honda loves it. VTEC has become a buzzword that has definitely sold them some cars. Honda marketing probably hopes they can ride this wave for as long as possible.
Personally, I love the VTEC changeover sound. I also love what it offers: a well behaved, fuel efficient motor, that isn't gutless as long as your willing to get those RPMs up. I just wish the stock AP2 VTEC transition was smoother. If I can feel it, IMHO it's not smooth enough. This could be helped by lowering the engagement point, but I suppose it's set higher for several reasons (power band placement, fuel economy, assuming the customer wants to feel vtec, etc.). Whatever, I'm still a huge fan of Honda motors.

That was far too serious and made too much sense across the board, from my point of view. You and your damn sensibility.
I agree with everything you said.
My dyno chart is still real.
