So i took the S to the dragstrip for the 1st time.

I'm no drag racing expert by any stretch of the imagination. I've only been to the track twice... once in my S2K and once in another car. The first time I put the S2K on the drag strip, I tried street launcing it (basically just revving up to about 4K rpms) and could only manage a 15.1 with a 2.4 60'. After my second pass down the track, I tried launching the car forreal (revving up to about 6K and dumping the clutch) and my times dropped dramatically. I pulled a 14.2 and a 2.1 60' on my 4th pass ever down the track with the S2000.
Your launching technique sounds correct from what you typed... I guess the poor track conditions were the reason your times weren't as they should have been.

If your going to race, just make sure you realize at some point something WILL go wrong. Clutch, diff, axles...

This is a good example of what you NEVER want to do. This kind of launch puts the most stress on your diff.
Luckily I only launched like that my first 2 times before I figured out that you really do need to dump it at 6K rpms. It sounds like THAT would be more damaging, but in reality the car took off a whole lot smoother, and of course my times got a whole lot better.

You just want to launch high enough to get the wheels spinning so you don't bog, then you ease off the throttle slowly until you get traction, and then put your foot to the floor. Or at least this is how I do it. Sounds like maybe you kept your foot to the floor the entire time the tires were spinning.
ive been to the track with my BMW before... but launching that is much different than an S... it makes a lot more torque sooner and you can put more load on the diff...
