So I run it up to 107 out of the toll-booth... Then I see cherries in my rear-view!

Default So I run it up to 107 out of the toll-booth... Then I see cherries in my rear-view!

I was cruising down I355 near Chicago on my way to my sister's house. Tops down, music blaring (I'm assuming, because I can't hear it at all.) And I have to go through a toll booth. Leaving the toll booth I hit about 107 before traffic causes me to slow down. So now I am cruising along at about 70-75 or so in the left lane, when I look in my rear-view and see a black caprice unmarked car with his cherries flashing! I think to myself, oh crap here it comes. This would be my third ticket in 6 mos! (Not really as bad as it sounds, after all the other two were in my truck.) So I moved over one lane to try and head toward the shoulder, my legs went completly numb. I swear I could not feel them at all! When what do ya know, the cop sped on by! Turns out there was an accident about 3 miles further up the road that he was headed toward. (There did not appear to be any injuries in the accident.)

One would think this would teach me a lesson, but frankly it didn't. About 20 mins later I was on I55 and managed to hit 122, my personal top speed so far. (damn traffic.)

I was extremely lucky. This car just begs to be pushed, and I have no will power!

You're a clown. Take it to a track before you kill someone other than yourself.

rue - what would have to happen in order to teach you the lesson? You getting hurt? Someone else getting killed? I hope you never receive that kind of lesson. The speeds you were doing are fine for the track. In traffic, in a major city, you gotta be responsible and draw the line somewhere.

Thinking about my post, it occurs to me that if I read this written by some other "maniac" I would be saying the same things. I gues the old attage is true: Anyone going slower than me is an idiot an everyone going faster is a maniac."

This was early saturday evening. There was really very little traffic. I was not "in the city." I was only operating in the straights, and only stayed in my lane. If I came up on someone else, I slowed down. Yes, the speeds were "unsafe" but I was actaully being very careful.

All that being said, I want to clarify that you guys do have a point. What I have said is no justification.

I have got to get some track time on Road America.

It's strange that I haven't been ticketed as much as you (I've never gotten a speeding ticket), yet I've surpassed your top speed on one occasion. I think it's because I almost never exceed the speed of the prevailing traffic. The one time I hit 130 was at midnight on an interstate highway with no other cars in sight. I'm just paranoid I guess. Probably the point is not to reach triple digits every time you get an opportunity. You should pick the right opportunity... or, you could obey the letter of the law as these folks suggest.

I didn't make it clear. I had a run of VERY bad luck. I had not had a speeding ticket in YEARS, and I get two in a matter of three month. Both in my full-size pickup truck, both before I even bought the S. The first was a speed trap. 40 MPH zone, drop without warning to 25. I was slowing down, but not fast enough. I fought it and lost. The second was liek 10 over on a highway. Pretty weak stories I know. I am usually very careful about my speed. (read paranoid.) It would be really bad to get another ticket this year.

common...this is BS. Everytime someone posts that they were going fast people always bitch. Its a freaking sports car, you are supposed to push it.
Obviously its stupid but if know your limits, people usally dont do shit past their limits, then do what you want.
Im sure everyone on this board has gone 100+ on highways....
Just play safe and dont put anyone else in danger except yourself.

Just my .02
