Default Sliced roof due to roof frame?

Yesterday I noticed a 1.5 inch slice in my top about halfway between the front of the top and the first hinge, above the frame on the passenger side. At first I thought someone might have "stabbed" my roof, but when I looked at the driver's side, I found that someone (PO?, Honda?) had put an adhesive piece of vinyl on the frame at the corresponding spot and that it was missing on the right side. It turns out the frame, which is very sharp at this point, appears to be slicing the top whenever it is fully opened.
Has anyone else had this happen? Anyone else seen this piece of vinyl attached to their roof frames? Any help is appreciated.
Chris
