Skipping gears while downshifting

To go from sixth to fourth, clutch in, engage fifth but don't let the clutch out, and then engage fourth and let the clutch out. That way each of the synchros gets to do it's share of the work. There are alternative ways to take the load off the synchros, but they all depend somewhat on being able to feel what the transmission is doing (through the shifter) so just learn the techniques without skipping gears, and then when you do want to skip a gear, do it in a way that won't make life hard for your gearbox.

Not an issue if done correctly.

I don't know the answer but I think almost all of us have skipped a gear now and then.
During normal driving it's always a possibility but as you drive and become accustomed to the feel of each shift, you'll usually know before you release the clutch. Could be the synchros not exactly lined or it could be a driver error.
I usually rev match slightly and if the shift is missed ,return to the gear that I just left then attempt to engage the proper gear again.
This seems reasonable to me since it's only one of the two choices you have. Either accept that you missed a gear or go back to where you came from.

and it seems like skipping upshifts is a common knowledge that it's bad. i usually do this in stop and go traffic, 1st, 2nd, 4th, then 6th... all this is happening between 2Krpm-3Krpm. Is my laziness killing my tranny? don't get me wrong.. i love shifting, when im driving spiritedly(is that even a word). for some reason, i thought skipping while driving normal is better for my clutch and tranny since im only disengage/engaging my clutch 4 times from 1st to 6th instead of 6x, guess i'm wrong.
