Should I get my oil changed?
Hi. I'm trying to take the best care that I can of my 04 S2000, in fact, I'd like to take better care of it than I need to.
I've already had my oil changed once, and now it's been about 2700 miles and 3 1/2 months. The oil is looking brown on the dipstick; it's lost it's golden hue.
Should I get my oil changed now, or do I have the room to wait until 3750 miles have elapsed?

There's a very helpful FAQ called "The Oil Journals". You should read it. Here are a few summary observations.
1. Changing oil more frequently does not necessarily benefit your engine. It does lighten your wallet and waste resources. I would wait until you reach the correct service interval (3,750 for severe duty)
2. The S2000 comes from the factory with a special break-in oil that should be left in the car for at least 3,750 miles.
3. Use non-synthetic oil in the car until you have about 10k miles.

I wouldn't loose sleep over it. Once you get to 3,700 mi and change the oil to synthetic, you should be set for 4k miles between changes.
Spend the money on the supplies and tools to maintain the exterior and wheels. Time is less considerate to the finish than the engine.

When I change the oil and filter on my motorcycle I find that the oil has that nice semi-transparent golden color through the sight glass. Then I run the bike for a few minutes and it's brown. Same thing with the cars. It's been my experience that oil takes on that brown color as soon as you run the car for five minutes after putting in the new oil.
