Should I buy 2008 CR or Base?

I wouldn't take the CR over a base S2k even for a weekend toy. With the money you save buying a regular S2k, you can get mods that will make it smoke a CR in a straight line or around a track. That extra second around a track the CR has over a base S2k is easily made up with Bilstein PSS9s, decent wheels/tires, and I/H/E/tune.

If you're a big baller - just buy the CR and have a softtop installed - in essence making a USDM Type S. You could sell the CR cover on here and put it towards a softtop setup - and I've seen complete setups, motors, frame, top on here before. I don't know how much it would run to have a dealer do it but money talks. Best of both worlds.
true that you'd have a difficult install due to removing some of the bracing, and youd lose some stiffness. maybe buy it in canada?
but i'm not that baller, and to me, the soft top is very important. the CR would be a convertible on drives only IMO because of the risk of rain, while i personally drop the top half the time on my drive to work. but then again, is it a DD or a weekend car, and is it a track toy or a weekend toy?
if its 100% track, i'd just get an elise or something similar.
if its a weekend/track car, the CR makes sense.
if its a DD, the soft top would be important IMO, and i'd seriously look at picking up an 07 and some CR parts.
07+CR bits may make the most sense anyways, as you could probably get a new MY07, comptech supercharger, and CR suspension or PSS9s for roughly the same money as a new CR. also get some rims and upgrade the rubber to CR or better spec after the factory 050s are toasted. you'd end up adding sway bars if the rigidity is an issue, but again, if its *that* big a deal, maybe the elise would be a better bet anyway.
and one last thing that's rarely mentioned: if you get the CR and have a soft top installed, why can't you recoup some of the expense by selling the hardtop?

BASE! CR suspension is good but still a lil too high off the ground compared to some aftermarket. HT is cool but no topdown, you could get a HT as an option anyways if you get the Base. Mugen or Spoon looks better anyways than stock HT. Lip/Wing, well you could get a better one of your choice. Interior however looks nicer, I like the seats, but some might like the leather ones. In my opinion, the CR is pretty much just a lil modified version of the base. with some few aftermarket parts, you could end up with a better set up for maybe cheaper price. But what do i know. lol

If you plan on autocrossing or doing track events (inlcuding SCCA T3 racing) then definitely go for the CR.
If you don't, but still enjoy the experience of such cars, go for the CR.
If dropping the top is important, or if you're just not worried about being competitive in the above activities, I don't think the CR will get you much over a base model.

Weekend car - CR (tires don't really last that long)

Anyways, I DD my CR. And Ill admit... there are a lot of times I wish I had a soft top. Then there are times I park in a shady neighborhood and am glad I got a hardtop.
But it really is annoying to get a friend to have to help you take the top off. If you get the CR, invest in a hoist. ASAP.
