I think that I might have this tapping issue. My car has 34500 miles on it and it is a certified used Honda so I hope it is covered. Mine is a 2000 model. My car seems to run great but I have heard this noise a lower RPM. Does this mean that my engine is going bad?

I'm pretty sure that a gentle tapping a low revs is not the symptom. From the folks who reported it earlier, they said there'd be little doubt in your mind if you heard it.
If you're tapping is loud, you may be in for some trouble.
I think, in general, a tapping noise is usually some sort of valve alignment problem. It'd be best to have the valves looked at first. Just a guess.
Do you know if the spark plugs were replaced on this car? I'd certainly check the plug condition and torque if I were you.

Thanks guys, I really don't think that there is anything wrong with the car because it runs great. I have a feeling that this is a normal noise. I bought the car certified used from a Honda dealer with 32000 miles on it. It had just had the 30000 mile service at the dealer.

engine catastrophic failure... con rod broke, punctured several holes into block.
dealer is not budging.. they are expecting us to pay for engine tear down for inspection and 10k for a new engine transplant. i have an extended warranty for 6 years, 75k miles... dealership does not seem to care.
car's stock with the exception of clutch, flywheel, exhaust, wheels and the oem hardtop.
i read most of the engine problems here, but.. seems as if warranty/courtesy repairs have been done with ease... in my case, dealership is saying 'no'. anyone have any advice?

I have a Black 2003 Honda S2000! At 15,000 miles the check engine light came on so I took it in to have it checked out. The dealer reset the computer and said no problems. I drove it home and a few days later it returned. We took it and they said cylinder 2 and 4 were misfiring again. The spark plugs and wires were replaced. The computer checked out and cylinder 4 had no problems. Cylinder 2 was still misfiring. They accused us of mis-shifting the transmission causing over revving. They said that it wouldn't be covered under warranty because of our fault. We told them that we had never mis-shifted and we were going to file suit if the warranty didn't cover it. They tore the engine down and callled us and told us that it was a defective part and that warranty would cover it. They also paid for us a rental car after being assholes to us. They were scared we would turn them into Honda since we threatened that. They are now being very nice. They called in a specialist to the fix the engine because they have no clue as to what needs to be done. I ask all Honda S2000 owners with the problem to file a complaint with the NHTSA.This a defect that needs to be recalled and taken care of! People shouldn't be having to pay to fix something that Honda messed up!

To everyone out there saying it is someone's fault if the oil is low and they didn't check it is ridiculous. If the low oil light never came on I blame that on Honda! My car has been in the shop now for about 8days! I am not mad now because Honda owned up to their mistake and the dealership is now being very nice. They should feel bad after accusing us of Downshifting to a lower gear and messing up the engine. Their customer service sucks at our dealership. The people scream (HEY!!!!!,YOU!!!!!!) instead of mam or sir. They have tried to smooth everything over since we threatened them with a lawsuit and contacting Honda. [SIZE=7]Don't pay for engine repairs! Honda will cover them!! If they don't agree to it tell them you are going to file a lawsuit! They will soon change their minds! First contact Honda before filing suit they may try to work with you! Also if that doesn't work try to BBB! [SIZE=14]Contact NHTSA to file a complaint if engine failure happened to you! If enough complaints come in Honda will have to recall this and give eveyone an extened guarantee on the engine components!

well, you also have to remember, that some people do indeed misshift the car. accidents happen. don't go threatening to sue unless you know you are 100% right. otherwise, you are just costing yourself more headache and walletache. but congrats to millss2000 that got his worked out. I was not as fortunate. I am very inclined to not buy another honda. maybe a used nsx but that's it

Mills, I'm happy for you, but your post is very confusing. Are you saying you let your oil run down, or not? The check engine light (a.k.a., MIL) is not the same thing as the low oil pressure light.
If you're saying that it's not your fault if you run too low on oil, I would disagree with that. I think it is. The owner's manual warns you about that. The F20/F22's appetite for oil is documented. Honda's mistake is that they didn't build in a reservoir level warning light for the oil; all they give us is an oil pressure light!
