shifting when cold
#11
Yeah, its starting to get really cold in Seoul these days... I'm sure it'll start snowing regularly soon (don't plan on driving in the snow)... but i've also started noticing about a month ago that the shifting is really notchy and hard... not too bad... but still very noticable...
1. Hard to get into 1st
2. Hard to get out of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th...
3. A bit of a clunk when getting into 1st quickly...
My drive to work is about 10~20 minutes... so it doesn't warm up by the time I get to work.... I noticed that when I drive longer, it gets back to normal... planning on changing the oils soon...

I bought one of those remotes that can start you car without being in the car so I just start it up before i go to school or work so its wormed up real nicely so I never have that problem.

there's alot of place will not install remote start if the car is stick, or they will have you to sign a waiver.
I am always wondering could we retrofit a block heater(it's like a glow plug thing for the diesel, optional equipment for many canadian honda) into the tranny, the wiring should be a walk in the park, just need some place to mount the bastard effectively.

I respectfully disagree, my truck goes into any gear no matter how cold out it is, with ease. and my s2k is a total beotch to shift when its cold out. granted they are two diffrent breads. i drive the truck in the winter anyways. so the S not going into gear rarly bothers me
Anyway, it is a known fact that when the tranny is cold on a manual transmission that it is not going to shift as good as it would once it's warm.

I haven't tried driving the S2 cold yet, and my garage is usually no colder than 55 degrees anyways. But one trick I have always used with my Audi is to rown through the gears a few times while the motor is warming up/idling. This helps warm things up a tiny bit and seems to help get things smooth a little faster.

Here in Dirty Jersey it gets mighty cold...well for me anyways . Although the S2K has perhaps the "most exciting" transmission I've ever had the pleasure of driving, I've always noticed that mine is not as smooth as my previous cars (Subaru WRX, Subaru WRX STi, Acura TSX 6spd). It's great, just doesn't go into gear as easy as I'd like. I've checked it out many times and it's okay, but I would have to agree with the idea that the car drives differently in the cold. I leave early in the morning and it's pretty cold...you can definitely tell the difference.

i've heard (i'm not a mechanic) that changing to royal purple is supposed to help the notchiness of the transmission. again this is just what i've read on these forums.
the ultimate fix for all of your problems however is a nice heated garage
