Default Is shifting diagonally to 5th bad?

I have heard from someone that shifting diagonally to 5th gear is bad. Is there any truth to this?

hmmm, i don't know much i guess about the shifter. i always thought there was some sort of guide underneath the boot, and there is only one way to go from 4th to 5th, and if it feels like you are going "diagonally", it is just because there is space or "play" in this mechanism to guide the shifter into the appropriate gear.
