If I remember correctly the manual even mentions the parasitic effect of the A/C system upon the powertrain and warns against it during heavy loads(aggresive driving).
Here on the gulf coast my top is down early in the morning and at night but up during the heat of the day. I have experienced the condensation effect out of the vents as the cold dry air fights the high level of humidity found here in Tejas.

I think I may be shifting too slow... After you've gotten into the gear, how slowly do you let out the clutch?

Hey guys, I just want to revisit this for a little bit.

I finally found out what was wrong with the car. It wasn't my shifting technique. I'm glad too, because I knew I couldn't be THAT bad of a driver. The car lurched hard whenever I shifted with the AC on. It turns out the compressor was shot. They found out it was melting from within. Apparently my clutch was shotting shards out to the compressor and would cause the compressor to lock up and eventually break. So I had the compressor, coil set, receiver, condenser, clutch replaced and now it drives beatifully. I got a little over zealous today after getting it back and working so nicely that I got pulled over It happens.

I have an 01, had the dealer replace the synchros. Doesn't grind now. I do feel a little drag with the AC on but oh well. And in Florida I sometimes have the top down and AC on. Whatever it takes
