I wouldn't recommend cutting more than 0.140" off the threads on your stick. If you do, the "STOP" will be the threads at the bottom of the stick against the beginning of the threads in the knob instead of the stick bottoming out in the bore of the knob thus, potentially (almost certainly), bunging up the lead of the threads in the knob.
Knobs going to be as low as it can go either way but this way we're insuring the threads on the knob don't get fvcked-up as you tighten it down.
