The credit union will give you a release of liability form and a satisfaction of lien form, something like that... You should then give the buyer a release of liability form and a bill of sale form and maybe a copy of the satisfaction of lien. The credit union should know all the forms exactly, I'm trying to remember what I had to do to get my s2000. I believe that the buyer will have to make the check payable to you and you make a check payable to the credit union though. When I got mine, I brought cash and gave it to the seller and he in turn gave it to the bank. Bank filled out the forms and he filled out the forms and I went to the DMV directly after and had the car's title changed over and the car registered. The title came in the mail a week later or so.

So I'm gonna have him come with me to the credit union on a weekday and give his cashier check to the credit union and they will in turn send him the car title. The DMV paper can be done afterwards, correct?

I don't think anyone would wanna carry $20K in cash
You can call AmEx to verify they are good. I know this because when I was in Japan, the bank decided to call in every damn number on the $1500 worth of $20 and $50 checks I had on me when I wanted to exchange for Yen.

I can't believe there is argument over such a simple thing.
1. call his bank to confirm the funds.
or
2. let your bank go confirm, they do do this all the time believe it or not.
No one is going to bring you $20,000 in bills. That's crazy. What if he gets robbed?
When I bought my GSR, I had a cashier's check from my bank and then had to get a DMV bill of sale notorized for me and the seller. If my check was bad, they would've traced me anyway.
