Just as long as it opens and functions, isn't that all you need it to do?
I just want to know if everyone else's falls back toward the rear after you here the "click" when opening? Or if I'm repeatedly pulling out the hinges by doing this?

Mine will stay in place when it clicks. I don't use it often either - have some gloves and a tire pressure gauge in there.
