Default Seat Theft Question

I have a garage, live in a nice area and only drive my S2000 on nice days. As a result, I haven't been worrying too much about seat theft. Next week, however, I am going to take my 2005 to Florida to visit an old buddy. Probably 1 motel night each way (leisurely trip) plus parked outside of his home in a beach side community for three days or so.

I guess I am paranoid. What do you folks think of getting an inexpensive (I've seen them at Costco for around $35) car cover just to temporarily hide the identity of the car (especially at the motel). Is this a stupid idea? Will it draw even more attention to the car? How worried should I be?

I think the car cover would do exactly as you mentioned--draw more attention.

You should be fine. Unless you're staying in a really crappy area of town I wouldn't sweat it. And there's always insurance if it does happen.

does he have a driveway? if he does then i'd get a cover. ppl don't really notice cars in driveway with covers...if your car is nfr or rio especially get a cover. i guess it's too late for the seat locks though..pray for the best i heard some parts in fl is the worst place for seat thefts

Park directly in front of the office check-in area. Use a steering wheel and clutch pedal lock (about $45, and for good measure tip the night clerk with some cash to keep an eye on it.

I leave this coming Sunday and will be back Friday. I will report back.

By the way, as far as a car cover bringing more attention to the car: this is no doubt true, BUT I think most thieves are very car-specific. They are not likely to go and peak under a cover in order to plan a late night theft. They go after a sure thing by searching out their target from afar. Anyway, I bought a $27 cover I can use if I get paranoid.......
