sears damage

That really does suck, but that's what happens when you trust your car to people that are incompetent. We all know that there is a very fair chance that our cars will come out with damage in that situation.
He knew better, but he made excuses instead.
Didn't have tools? You could have bought a 17mm wrench and a drain pain in the same place that you bought your oil and filter. Hell, you could have taken the wrench back afterward.
And was the car going to explode if he didn't get his oil changed THAT DAY? Was he in a land where tools are forbidden from the general public for months at a time?
This is why you shouldn't make excuses or skimp. Do shit right. He learned his lesson. Lucky us, hopefully we did to.
BTW, Honda dealers aren't much better, but I'm sure you have a little better chance. Back around 2001, a friend's NFR S2k was damaged when they put it on the lift with the hood up and crushed it into the body. ****ing idiots.
Anyone know the outcome? Surely SEARS paid for the damage, etc. I assume it fell off of the lift or something?

This crap is why I never let anyone else touch my cars for even the most complex jobs. I helped a friend do his LT1 Formula's Intake manifold gasket replacement. When we lifted the manifold off the motor we just stared at the pushrod valley for about 30 seconds in complete silence. Apparently, the GM tech that did the job the first time @ 30k miles left a shop rag folded up inside and sealed the manifold up.
Not only did they do such a piss poor job that it had to be done again by us 25k miles later, but the rag had been deteriorating and breaking apart into the engine oil for years. Earlier that year we installed his FIPK intake and noticed that a vacuum hose had never been installed properly and had been rubbing against his A/C compressor belt developing a hole. So for about 25k miles his motor was breathing unfiltered air and had bits of shop towel circulating through his cylinder heads.
This was all done by a ASE certified GM mechanic. Do the work yourself when you can. No one cares about your car more than you!

2. GM products suck and those manifold gaskets go bad all the time, if it was the techs fault it would've happened right away, not 25k later.
3. if you drive an s2000 you should not be bringing your car to a sears auto center
