I used to work sales at sears and was good friends with their auto people. They did good work on my cars.
They cover what they did, or?
As for sears hiring quality employees, don't make that generalization All depends on the store and the store manager.

Yeah I was a mager for sears before. Some of their mechanics blow. Mostly all the young kids they hire seem to suck at least from my experience. If you get the veteran guys that have a career there you can get some good work. I always chose the one I wanted to do anything and they did a great job on my car but being a manager there and freindly with them I'm sure helped.

This crap is why I never let anyone else touch my cars for even the most complex jobs. I helped a friend do his LT1 Formula's Intake manifold gasket replacement. When we lifted the manifold off the motor we just stared at the pushrod valley for about 30 seconds in complete silence. Apparently, the GM tech that did the job the first time @ 30k miles left a shop rag folded up inside and sealed the manifold up.
Not only did they do such a piss poor job that it had to be done again by us 25k miles later, but the rag had been deteriorating and breaking apart into the engine oil for years. Earlier that year we installed his FIPK intake and noticed that a vacuum hose had never been installed properly and had been rubbing against his A/C compressor belt developing a hole. So for about 25k miles his motor was breathing unfiltered air and had bits of shop towel circulating through his cylinder heads.
This was all done by a ASE certified GM mechanic. Do the work yourself when you can. No one cares about your car more than you!

that's f'ed up, really anywhere you go that u drop off your car u risk someone else taking it for a spin. It can be a posh dealer like Land Rover of Manhattan, Ponte's Fine Italian restaurant in the Meat packing sector in Manhattan, the valet parking garages, anywhere.
I was at LR of Manhattan doing a recall for the rover when i noticed one of the service guys, accelerate like a bat out of hell wheels screeching and all. My father when he worked as a valet at a fine italian restaurant that shall remain nameless would race bimmers and porsches.
Just the other day, on a 1/4 mile stretch over a long overpass brigde i accelerated cause i always like to cut loose there and a new TSX was right behind me, I let off the gas and dude passes me up, a brand new TSX seats still wrappped (paragon acura), nicely broken in for the new owner.

Sears left the lug nuts loose on my truck after a tire rotation. I lost a wheel after exiting the freeway on the way to work the next day. $2500 in damage. I hate to think what would have happened if it came off a minute earlier when I was in rush hour traffic at 60 mph.
