I found a white 09 in carlsbad ca. at invoice.
i guess I got spoiled hearing all those 27k-30k prices
for the last month.Even with this economy the dealers
feel they have a sellers market on the last year s2000.

That is just it- the GPW is a higher demand car than some others so the dealers who have them want more $$$ for them(completely fair). It would seem Honda would make more GPW's since they appear to be popular...

It seems that white is more popular on this board/to enthusiasts, only. The dealers usually order the more safe and publicly popular colors since they sell more easily. That's why when you search dealer inventories for S2000s and cars in general, you usually end up finding a whole bunch of blacks and all sorts of silvers/greys. And for the S2000, it seems there were always a few red and yellow ones, probably since it's a more "sporty" color. The blue and white ones were few and far in between. At least that's been my experience.

I bought a new leftover 2008 last weekend. At that time, there was only one 2009 within 150 miles from my house near Sacramento, California down from two I had found the weekend before. None of the dealers I emailed would offer an internet price below $32k. I was able to get the new 08 for $7720 below MSRP(which is nearly $8500 below the 09 MSRP).

Of course I would have preferred the 2009 being it will be the last model year, but since there were zero changes from the 2008, I wasn't willing to pay that much more. It doesn't appear that dealers are ordering any 2009s and the 2008s are really drying up fast too. There were still a couple of new 2007s within the same 150 mile radius too which I'm sure I could've gotten a little cheaper than the 2008, but there were some minor changes in 2008 that I wanted.

Dealers I dealt with did not seem concerned about getting rid of the leftovers and felt the demand would increase in the spring. I think they are hoping to be able to cause demand/pricing to go up as we get closer to the end of production in June by keeping the 2009 inventory incredibly low.

It was my understanding as well that the 2008 and 2009 cars are identical, is being the last year (with no changes), going to be all that significant, especially if you can obtain 2008's at a good price? Let's face it, as for collectibility and value, these cars are headed to a downward trend over the next 10 years, and then should gradually climb back up, that is if oil is under $15.00/ gallon. Personally it is the enjoyment factor that is important with these cars, not the collectibility factor, and I don't see how you can enjoy a 2009 more than a 2008 if they are identical.
