Screw the dealership
I own a 2008 Honda S2000 CR..
Alright, recently.. my car has been really hard to shift gears in with an occasional grind... all of the gears had this problem. Also made this constant scratching sounds whenever I put it in gear with the clutch in.. So I'm kind of thinking the pressure plate may be defective/bad. But I wanted a 2nd opinion..
So I took it to the dealership so they can diagnose it. I thought it'd be the best place for a s2000 to be diagnosed. I've never been so wrong.
Despite the fact they screwed me on my last oil change by not filling it to full ( I assume they didn't run the car after they checked the oil), I took it to them. Had a gut feeling to take it to another shop but I wanted to have faith..
I got the phone call from them stating my clutch is out and for them to fix it, it'd be 2400$.. and that's if they didn't have to pull the whole motor out??
And they also looked at my rear end and my right tire is loose due to wore out parts and they wanted another 110$ to diagnose that.. they also stated it was a major safety hazard.
I'm assuming the previous owner was a ricer due to the fact the paint job on the car is horrible and the bumper appeared to have hit something. Didn't look bad though.. (It's black and appears to be repainted.) I saw the parts on it were all stock so I assumed it wasn't really abused.. I should've thought maybe they reinstalled stock parts to get more out of it. One headlight has some film over it due to it starting to get that haze over it.. started flaking off recently, tryin to get it all off so I can restore it.
I ordered the Exedy KCH06 clutch kit for the car for 345$..
I found a shop that'll install it for 750..
Not sure what I'm gonna do about the back end though :/ I just enlisted in college and almost got everything paid for and this hits me. Wish the honda gods would buy me dinner before they **** me.. I like to be wine and dined before I am ****ed. Hoping to hear some advice from you guys.

Unless you are going to mod for extra power (boost, nos, etc), then you are much better off with stock clutch parts. They will last a lot longer and you'll have less issues.
If you don't trust the dealer (and I know wouldn't trust any of them), then why are you trusting their diagnosis? I would try ruling out obvious and cheap stuff before shelling out for a new clutch. Notchy, grinding shifts are usually caused by clutch not fully disengaging. That is usually a problem with the fluid or the master or slave cylinder, or just the clutch rod adjustment, not the clutch itself.
Try this, change the clutch fluid and gravity bleed it. Search for the diy. Adjust the clutch rod under the dash. Again, search for the diy. If still having issuez, take it to an independent shop, one that at least knows something about these cars, and have them diagnose. Where are you located? Someone might know a good shop nearby.
The rear tire, is it really loose or is dealer just trying to make up things to fix? Jack up that corner, and see if wheel is loose if you try and rock it side to side then try top to bottom. Grab it by the tire, and try to rock it. Does it feel loose? Compare it to the other sidd, is it different?
Try the axle nut retorque first, might fix it. Again look for the diy.
There is also a thread of suggested things for new owners to do and to check. Find that thread and do what it says.

The right rear tire was loose? How so?
Also, I don't know what this is supposed to mean. Have you checked a vehicle history report? Check all the vin tags? It sounds like your s2000 was in an accident.
As for the shifting problem, it could be solved with a clutch pedal adjustment or clutch fluid bleed.

As for jacking up the car, I don't have a jack low enough to get underneath it. I have to find someone who does.
I'll be getting it back later today, I'll try and look into it.
As for as buying stock parts, isn't Exedy and OEM made in the same factory?
The loose parts though, it's probably the dealer tryin to get more money.. although the rear end usually makes a popping sound from a stop to go, and sometimes over bumps.

Yeah, I'm with everyone else here. Spend $100 and buys some tools and parts and do some work yourself. Check the clutch master for leaks inside the footwell. Change both the clutch fluid AND the trans fluid, it's really not hard. Might as well change the diff fluid while you are at it too.
If you do in fact need a new clutch the exedy "OEM replacement" will be fine if you are keeping the car NA. However, do NOT use the T/O bearing it comes with, use an actual OEM one from Honda.
