scratches on my AP1 headlights
Hi,
I m not too sure where I should post this, however I have some kind of deep scratches on one of my headlights. I am just wonder is any thing I can do to minimaiz the scratches. Probably later on I will convert to AP2 headlights. For now, I want to see if I can get rid of those scratches.
Thanks

Wash and Wax forum is your best bet for this information. It would help if you would post pictures of the scratches. Technique would depend upon how deep the scratches are. If way deep then there may be nothing that can be done. Use a photo hosting service and link in some pics.

First try a plastic cleaner and polish job. Meguires and 3M makes good stuff. Should run you about $10 bucks a bottle. You use the plastic cleaner first, which is abrasive and kind of like compound, and then finish it off with the polish. Works well with surface scratches. Takes light hazing away too.
If that doesn't work, try wetsanding them very lightly, and then use the plastic cleaner / polish technique.
If you really want to get extreme, use a porter cable wheel to apply the cleaner.
If you're still unsatisfied, why not opt for some colored headlight film? That will hide the scratches, and it might look good!
My headlights are a little messed up because the previous owner had eyelids on them. I used the cleaner / polish by hand and it helped, but I'm still not happy. It's been too cold out to wetsand, but once it gets a little warmer I'll try that. Otherwise, I'm going to put some yellow-tinted headlight film on them.

I bought this stuff at WalMart called "5 minute optical polish" for about 8 bucks and it worked very well. All you need is a standard drill and about 10 minutes. My lenses had this weird looking funk on the surface I guess from being in the elements for 7 years and the polish took it right out. For the small price and time I would def. give it a try.
