Default Salvaged s2k worth it?

Hello,

What are you guys thoughts on purchasing a salvaged s2k? The price is good and the salvage title was due to theft (the usual.. seats and slashed top).

Run like there is no tomorrow? Or worth the investment?

This is very hard to say with minimal information. The car can be in great shape or bad shape apart from the theft damage.

If it's seats and top only, then it may be a good deal depending on the price and the general condition otherwise. Need more info.

Very cheap and easy fix. People who have no experience with salvage title vehicles (accident/theft) are always deterring people by speaking out of their ass.

Some people acknowledge that spending $3-4K more for a piece of paper that doesn't say "SALVAGE" is pretty stupid given the car is indistinguishable inside and out from a clean title vehicle.

Go for it if you have a cheap easy source for seats. Tops are cheap and easy to replace.

I saw this one on ebay. Not worth it. Did they want something like $15,000? F it and get a clean one.

It's a 2003, approx 40,000 miles. Bald tires, slashed top, missing seats, a few door dings, paint is consistent of a 6 year old car. $9000. Is that a decent deal?

I don't own an S yet but have been doing a lot of shopping around and from what I've seen about 1-2k more would get you and 02 or 03 with similar mileage and nothing missing. That's my opinion.

The thing about buying a salvage title car is that, when you sell it, it will still have a salvage title. You'll likely take a hit for it in sales price then, so make sure what you pay now reflects that. You'll need to spend $700 for tires, $500 for a DIY top, and ~$1500 for aftermarket seats. That means you're up to ~12k for an '03 with salvage title, that doesn't sound like a deal to me. Do a full body/chasis inspection to make sure it wasn't in a wreck. Finally, if you still are considering it, spend the money to make sure the airbags are functional. It's not uncommon for a salvage title car to have been in a wreck that popped the airbags, then the car is cosmetically repaired without replacing the airbags.

Hope this helps.
