Default Salvage Title Question

Theres an MY02 in Sebring Silver with 13k miles for around 19k on eaby. It sounded awesome and I was excited to start bidding but then read that it had a salvage title. He said it had damages to the front left and right fenders and left rear quarter panel at the time it was purchased. " All parts have been replaced and repaired with excellent auto body work and the vehicle has no problems what so ever. Engine, and all mechanical parts function perfectly, the vehicle is truly in a like-new condition". Is this BS? cause if it had a Salvage title shouldn't damage be more then bumpers and panels? I'm just concerned that If I ever decide to sell it ( assuming I win the bid ) I won't get back much money for it because of the Salvage title. The car does look awesome and you can't tell any work was done to it but I just don't know how it could have a salvage title. I'm not very experienced in purchasing cars so any advice would be greatly appreciated

Well, I know around here, a salvaged title is issued if the damage is 80% of the value of the car. So on a $28K car, if the damage comes up to $19500, it is totaled. A bumper is $450, and painting is about $500 (on the high side).

Unless you are local and can test drive it and inspect it good, I would stay away. I'm sure you can find more in your area expecially since this isnt the weather to drive them and most would rather sell then park over the winter months.

You'll never have peace of mind buying a salvaged car so you're better off looking for a clean titled 00 or 01 model.

I would love to but Burbank is in the LA area. I'm sure if you wanted, you could get one of them to check it out. Other then that, I would ask for all reciepts of work done and that could tell you if the work was done half-a$$ed or not. If they cant give receipts, then I would be leary.

Most salvaged cars are bought and repaired cheaply. then sell for more then spent/paid. No one wants to lose $$ on anything, expecially a dealership.

Damn..I was pretty excited about it to. Yeah I guess I should ask him for the reciepts. And if anyone does happen to be in that area ( and has some free time ) test drive the car and let me know what you think. I'd you!

Well, here you go DreamZero, check this out:

Owner is wreckeds2k, Location: Henrietta N.C. US. Dont let the name scare you, he did own a red S prior and I think it was totaled. Not sure, but worth asking about. Well, here's what he has for sale:

FOR SALE;01 Silverstone/Red,OEM lip,Cleared headlights,OEM Red badges,18" Volk GTC's wrapped in Nitto 555's,2002 Taillights,Countersunk Pearl Shift Knob
$18,500
21k

I would contact him if you are interested and see about buying from a person (who has been on the board for over a year, and you could search on him to find out any info on his car). I dont know him, I just ran across him in an X-mas thread.

Here's more pix in his photo albums: http://gallery.s2ki.com/imagecatalogue/user/9884/

Definately worth checking out and closer to you for shipping/pick-up Hope that helps some

LOL, thanks. I had PM'd him too, and he got a deposit put down on it yesterday. So unfortunately it is pending sale. That just goes to show you that you can find opne around you if you look hard enough. And that dont mean it will be salvaged either!!!

Good luck and happy hunting

Email them and ask for receipts and pictures of the prior damage.
