Charlie - I think almost anyone of us would have accepted the challange (although I would have launched a little higher)

I (dumb but fun) have had my kids traveling at speeds over 120mph in my Typhoon pissing around, just as my father had done with me in his Jag XKE (automatic so my mom could drive it..ahhah).

Scot

PS...i don't think a wussy S4's gonna beat the ty... unless it is totaly tweaked and the guy driving it hits everything just perfect.

For those who say I was going half way with my 4500 launch..... Your damn right. I realize that if I would have dumped the clutch at a higher rpm's it would have made it closer or perhaps I would have won, but it was just fun and nothing serious. I also do not wish to abuse the clutch.

I have owned a stoplight racer a 1970 454cu 4 speed Corvette. It had 480 hp over 500lbs of torque and would stomp alot of cars as well as pull tree stumps out of the ground if I wanted.

I get no thrill from drag racing or I would have stayed with my Vette

In hindsight if I would have known how serious the guy driving the S4 was I might have been tempted to do a high rpm launch. After all there were 4 people in that car.

Sorry to let you guys down it seems as though some of you take it so personally that I blew it.

This was just a couple of enthusiasts enjoying a sunny day here in the cold NE.

Sec => I always launch my S2000 at the drag strip at around 4500 RPM and I always pull under 14.5 times (Woodburn drag strip)without a problem. I have never dumped my clutch at 6500. My best has been 14 even. I'll be hitting the track soon this yearand I will provide scans of my times slips.

One day I got a ride in a stock S4. There were four guys in the car so it was rather laden. At a stoplight, he did a full throttle launch. WOW!! is all I can say. That car just knocked the wind out of me all the way through first gear. Unbelievable. The ride I got later in the day from another friend in his NSX was somewhat less breathtaking than I was expecting after sampling the S4. If the Stook can accelerate like that car, than I would be really happy.

Most tracks are different then the street. Unless they are putting alot of that sticky VHT stuff there is less grip on the floor of a track because of all the tire crap left over ... Those launches might be enough for those conditions.

But when you have alot of grip, by doing a 4500 RPM launch i would think you are putting more strain on the car by not breaking the tires loose and forcing all the energy to be dissipated on the drivetrain and on top of this LOSING

I did no racing today; just exploring. I found out what three ones looks like on the speedo; and never cracked 6,000 rpm.

Hmmmm....I have "raced" against an s4, from a rolling start and managed to get 1-2 car lengths on him. He was with his girlfriend, and started revving immediately after the light turned green, (on our usually busy but empty 19th ave around 2am)and pulled ahead 1/2 immed then it was all me. He had a tech something sticker, and showed me his bird at the next stoplight, although his girlfriend smiled at me! Guess thats something..

That's very clever, doc. Middle-aged is old to me, though. Figure it out.

Anyone feel the power of a chipped S4? Amazing. S2000 would get beat pretty easy in a drag situation.

And, Charlie, it's all good man. But the S4 guy and the little kids are only going to interpret your actions as... "he revved the crap out of that thing and I still burned him." Although you at his bumper isn't that bad. If the S4 driver knows any better, he'd realize that was just one time and nothing more.

I appreciate the story.
