I was going out last night and on my way to Miami, I ran into some serious traffic. When I finally came upon the accident, I saw it was one of us. A silver S2K all smashed up. Rear end was smashed, and the front bumper was all messed up too. I guess he spun a couple of times bouncing off the middle wall on the highway. It was raining.

I felt his pain. It was like seeing a friend in an accident(although I probably didn't know the guy). I couldn't stop, because of all the traffice. I do know a few people with silver S2K's down here (S. Florida), so I am just wondering if it was one of you.

Was it someone on this board?
What happened? Jusr by looking at it, the inside of the car looked ok, like no one got hurt.
Was everyone ok?

Although that's south of my typical migratory range, it wasn't me. I hope that, whoever it was, they're doing okay.

 

i don't even get to see any other S2000's let alone wrecked versions, in my area.

Our Speed Trial event was held in the rain at Hialeah recetrack, and I hope that one of the competitors in a silver S2K wasn't involved in this accident. Frank - you O.K.?

I'm hoping to get my silver stook back from spin-related repairs sometime this week...

 

I recently read the article in Road & Track claiming the stook gets to 60 in 4.9 sec. but the one comment that got my attention was how poor the car handles in the wet and even an experienced driver like the one driving this stook had quite a challange. These are professional drivers and you dont acquire these skills in a 2 day course on a track with an instructor. To me it's a common sense issue. I never drive in the snow, if I get caught in the rain the stook NEVER sees VTEC and I have never had a serious problem in the 14 months and 20,000 miles I have had this car. There is no reason to push this car in the wet I dont care what kind of tires you have. I would rather slow down in the rain rather then gamble on driving fast when there are so many times when it's dry and much easier and safer to push the car. I think the overwhelming urge to drive this car fast all the time can lead to a potentially dangerous and unsafe encounter with loss of control and worse yet, injury or death. Is it worth it? I'm just an older (age) member who got to be older by using a little "common sense". Dont mean to preach but the most important things in life wont be found in a car.

 

S2KRAY - I agree. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way. I owned another rear wheel drive car in the past, a late model 300 zx, and spun out in the rain. I trusted it too much in the dry, and I figured that carried over into the rain. Boy was I wrong.

Many headaches and thousands of dollars later, I learned my lesson. Slow down in the rain!

I guess thats why I felt the guys pain (in the silver wrecked S2K), I know the thoughts running through his head when your baby gets all smashed up.
So be careful out there guys. Protect your toys!

I think that's exactly right. Stay out of VTEC on wet roads, replace your rear tires the instant you can see the wear bars, and don't drive into standing water at speed.
