Not necessarily. Specifically, the S2000 should not be in the same category as a WRX, but fact of the matter is S2000 buyers have also looked at WRXs, and vice versa.

I disagree about the WRX as an apples and oranges comparison. They're both fast 'sporty' cars. Don't get all high-and-mighty about our S's being "sports cars" since there's a world of people with sub-2500 lb cars out there that can make legitimate argument that our cars are grand-touring pigs. I looked hard at the WRX before buying my S and if the STi version was out (and the new Evo, and the 350Z,...) it would have been a much harder decision.

I like to drive fast. Straight lines, curves, I love them all. I bought the S partly for the sub-6-second 0-60 so, to me, the WRX is worth comparing.

True, buyers may have considered buying an S2000 vs a WRX, but it still comes down to comparing two different types is cars against each other. As you said yourself "the S2000 should not be in the same category as the WRX". It's just not a fair comparison. Two different cars with different "heritage", different design goals although they may appeal to an overlapping market segment.

Sure, if you are an enthusiast, more than likely you will appreciate each car for what it is.

Haven't driven a WRX & I know looks shouldn't be sooo important, but I can't get past that boxy family sedan design. Also, I hear putting the top down isn't easy

I have driven the WRX many time (my friend owns one 2002). Over all the car is fun to drive in the turns. The interior is well laid out. The seats are not leather but then hold you better than our S2000 seats. My major complaint and the main reason I would not purchase one is the over all tranny. The gear box is horrible compared to the S. It feels like the gear box is made of rubber, not solid at all.
I drive the canyons more than the tracks so because the car has more torque down low and AWD it is for sure run to drive.
Nothing however beats the two seater roadster
