12 years is a long time to be best valued sports car in present day.
It was only a matter of time.
While a little late in the game, Honda has proven that if you set your mind to it, you can do it.

how many "true" sports cars are there under 40k? S2000, Miata, MR2 spyder??. I think the Z3 and TT are a little soft to be sports cars but maybe. Pony cars? not sports cars. RSX, Celica, WRX? sporty but not purpose built sports cars. Anything I'm forgetting? It seems like a no brainer to me

Automobile Magazines choice of the Mazda Miata as best sports car under $40k was ridiculous in the first place. The Miata is a very nice little sports car and if the parameters had been best sports car under $30 then I'd have to agree with them. But making the price point where they did opens up the door for the S2000 and the Miata doesn't come close to measuring up.
