Happy to see GM getting into the roadster business as it is good for all of us. Every person driving a Solstice is one less SUV and one more enthusiast in the making.
Price point is good and the styling is unique on both the SKY (moreso) and the Solstice (little too Z4 in the front, but still different).
(now that I have been nice)
GM has a long history of coming to the game late, or letting progress fly by, and thinking they can enter the fray with all their money and kick everyones ass. A perfect example of this is the Malibu (it really is the car I knew America could build). If their target is the Miata, they have their work cut out for them. Mazda has been at it for 16 years and, even being an S lover, I have to admit the Miata is a damn fine car that does what it sets out to do extremely well. Not only that, but without Mazda taking the chance, the S most likely would never have been built. to Miata. to GM for thinking they can unseat in icon so easily, especially with the reworked version of the Miata hitting showrooms.
Big mistake on the generals part for even mentioning the S in any comparison as the NA version is not even in our league. Maybe when the turbo comes out, which leads me to my next point, but first for even allowing the name "S2000" to appear in any test of pre-prod Solstice.
Finally, and I think their biggest mistake from a numbers standpoint, is letting shots of the turbo test mule leak to Autoweek. Why anyone in their right mind would drop 20k on the NA version when the turbo will be a true drivers car is beyond me. If you have to have a Solstice right now and don't want to wait for the turbo, since who knows when it will arrive, spend half as much on a 10 year old Miata in good shape (there are a ton of them out there) and you will be getting a car that is damn close to being just as good. For such short-sightedness . Way to be your own worst enemy GM.
In the end, I hope the car does well as it will be good for us driving enthusiasts. Welcome to the party GM, your going to have to earn your respect on this one.

Judging from the stats on the Solstice (if what I've read is correct) the "general" is doing one thing right --- if only just a little. The NA Solstice will have a bit more torque than the s2k and a bunch more than the base Miata. I've owned a Miata and now own an s2k, and IMO both cars could use more torque.
That being said "drive 'em before you buy 'em!"
Thanks,
Richard
