s2k now or solstice 6-12 months

Yes, I must agree that Pontiac is currently known for some pretty "low tech" products. FWD, pushrod engines 30 to 50 years old in design, etc. And indeed, there is much speculation in the business and financial presss that Pontiac (and Buick too) just may not be around much longer.
But as a "vintage" (read--- old) member, I can recall when Honda was pretty much a joke --- as in "what's the matter, couldn't you afford a REAL car?" Then, in the mid 80s, Honda started building some "world beaters" in their classes, and the rest is history. So such things CAN happen.
So, best to refrain from commenting on on a car before test driving it --- no matter who makes it.
Thanks,
Richard

Was really impressed by the build quality on the s2k. I haven't owned a GM car in over 20 years. I DO like the lines of the solstice better than the S2k, but clearly we're talking apples and oranges, the first year solstice comes with a 177hp Ecotec engine and is roughly the same weight as the S2k, the S2k DOES have a lot of characteristics of the elise I had (tho it's massive in comparison)..
Really leaning toward the S2k, wife doesn't care which one, she had a hard time getting in/out of the elise.
Have thought about waiting until the 06 S2k comes out. as amazingly the S2k stereo doesn't have mp3 capability, and the thought of going to an aftermarket stereo shop sends chills down my spine.
So far though, thinkin S2k.

talking about being "an old member" I was selling Hondas in 1974 when the only cars available were orange, red, and yellow 2 speed automatic stationwagons...there were questions, but we had customers breaking down the door for those cars..on the other hand, and I'll say again' the Solstice is still a Pontiac..what do you think leasing companies (not GMAC) will residualize the Solstice at on a 36 mo closed end with12k per year......maybe 43%

It scares the crap outta me that anyone driving the S would care at all about the sound out of the stereo!
Seriously, what does the stereo have to do with this experience?
Am I the only one who gets that driving the S is all about the feeling that comes from just below the balls?

Now Whoa!
First, notbody has driven a Solstice, so nobody can say if they perform crappy or well. I don't like to comment on cars I have not driven. All the car mags said the last generation BMW M3 was God's answer to the performance world. I thought it was like driving a fast concrete block! If I ain't driven it, I ain't going to comment on it.
Second, nobody's made the perfect car yet. And the s2k's stereo system is certainly not one of it's high points. Lack of iPod connectivity is only a very small part of the problem. As we all know the s2k is a "guts for leather" sports car, the road and wind noise is a factor. That's natural. But to have a stereo system that won't cut above this noise ain't natural. So the fact that there is a $90 mod that will make a better unit compatible with the driver's side audio controls is an important factor.
Thanks,,
Richard
