S2K Newb with a few unanswered questions
Hi all. I'm a newb when it comes to the S2K. I currently own an SRT4. I am used to RWD cars with big power (old school muscle). I am getting tired of the SRT4, it just has way too much power for a FWD car (modded). I want to go back to RWD or AWD. I decided on an STI, but they are too much money. More than I want to spend. I have owned an 97 EK and I love Honda's refinement, engines and transmissions. So me giving the S2K a thought is a no brainier. Only thing that bothers me about the car is the lack of space. I'm use to 4 doors or at least 4 seats.
I had a few questions. I have looked around the FAQs, and I have gotten a lot of good info. But I was looking for a little more direct info to help me deiced if this is the car for me, before I decided to get one.
How are these things on long trips (say 400 mile trips)? Like a SoCal to Vegas trip? I am use to snug seats (ie SRT4).
Is the lack of room really that bad? I mean the trunk will fit a suite case right? Only issue I'm going to have is getting my bass (guitar style bass) or snowboard in it. But if I'm solo will it fit on the passenger side?
What do you guys think of it as a daily driver? I live and work in Hollywood. Horrible streets and heavy traffic. The size of it should be nice for small parking spaces and I'm sure it maneuvers well.
Where should I look to buy one? I want a used 04 0r 05. Should I look for private party or dealer? Is finding one for around $22k out of the question with low miles?
My end result for this car is to daily drive it with a Vortech. Only looking to make 300whp. That should be fast enough for a city car.
Thanks for all the help,
Matt

My S2k is my DD and i dont have many issues with the space. Before this I had an Audi TT for a year and a half as DD, so im used to limited space cars. The trunk isnt that small. I have jumper cables, shoes, pool cues and have room for lots more. A guitar or snowboard may be tough but anything is possible with the top down
Cabin space had the biggest impact on me. No space for CD's or loose papers, or......anything really. The secret compartment is decent but is a pain to get to if you need quick access while driving. No conventional glovebox, and the rear center console is pretty small.
From the sounds of your post you arent too familiar with these, just go to a dealer and check them out, sit in them and see what space there is (or isnt). They are small inside. But i dont see it as a cramped feel.....i see it as a perfect fit, a drivers car - which it most certainly is.
As far as long trips, i havent taken any yet. I have exhaust and would imagine its droning would get to me after awhile.....probably put me to sleep.
If you are in cali check ebay! I am in NM and saw a lot over there that were decently priced. I got my 02 with 38k for 16,900 from a wholesaler. I looked private party/dealer in my area.
Goodluck!

You said STIs cost too much? The S2K isn't cheap either buddy. It's about the same price, if you're getting a new one.
But look on Autotrader. I remember there's this guy in Hollywood selling a red one for $18,900 and it has 15K miles on it. Its a 2003 model though and it has a salvage title cuz it got stolen or something.

^thats the site.
BTW im 6 foot 2 and still growing, and the S2K still has a little more room to spare IMO. Unless your legs are freakishly long (no offense intended), you'll be fine.

This is a question that I can answer. I am 6'3" 190 lbs. I have owned my S2K for over 4 years as a daily driver after trading in a 4dr Ford Explorer.
I fit in the car just fine. I have driven several trips of more than 400 miles. My knees do not cramp up because I have plenty of room. My back is fine as long as I take my wallet out of my pocket before I take off.
Storage is limited. I have a round cd case that I wedge between the front left side of the passenger seat and the center console. It never moves and it is easy access.
I play hockey as a goaltender. I place my stick bag in the car first running from the passenger foot well up between the seats. My leg pads go in the trunk and the rest of my gear goes in the passenger seat. If my 60' hockey sticks fit I would think that your snowboard will as well.
I kept the spare tire in my trunk and I can fit my travel case in the there...barely. I do mean barely. My travel case is rather long and rectangular so it is nearly too long and wide.
A friend of mine has an SRT4. I am more comfortable in my S2K than I was in his car. I also prefer RWD cars. If you are used to driving a stick in traffic this car should present no problem for you during your commute. If you are not, your left leg is in for a workout.
If you like to travel and participate in activities that require you to transport a lot of equipment, this may not be your best bet if it is your only car. You can manage as I have, and you can always rent a car if you are going to be traveling. A 4 door car is much more convenient and a lot more practical but may not have the same fun factor.
If you are considering an STi I would keep looking for one. You might also consider an Evo. I don't know how you feel about it, but it seems to fit what you are looking for.
I modified the 80/20 rule for my purposes when I decided to buy my S2K. I listed all of the things I wanted an needed from my car in order and drew a line at the top 20%. The S2K meets those needs more than 80% of the time. It's not exactly how Pareto's Principle was intended but it was enough to convince me to buy my car.
