S2K in GT5 vs real life
Saving up for an S and not sure if I want another AP1 or to get an AP2 this time. I never tracked my AP1 and it's been several years since I sold it so the particulars are a bit fuzzy. All I really remember is loving that 9k red line and it being a bit too tail happy, though some of that was probably my fault.
I have test driven an '01 just the other week and hope to take out an '07 this Friday but the dealers usually frown at you driving like you stole it.
Now I have Gran Turismo 5 and a driving wheel and have purchased both an '01 and an '06 in game and left them stock.
From anyone who owns one in real life as well as has played the game how accurate would you say the driving experiences are to the real thing?
Thanks in advance

Um... well, GT5 has a great tire model, but I wouldn't use it as an indicator of the driving experience for any car, nor would I advise basing a purchase decision on the way a car drives in the game.
Test drive both an AP1 and an AP2 and base your decision on how they actually drive. Polyphony's interpretation of how they drive is relatively accurate, but remember that's all it is--an interpretation of the car's handling. Nothing beats real seat time.

I drove the s2k in GT5 before I bought it, along with some of the other cars I test drove and while it shouldn't be your only determining factor, it certainly adds something to the experience. The first thing I notice in GT5 compared to a real life AP1/2 is the sound - it's not there. Being in a real one is such a visceral experience and you can hear the click of the cams switching over to the high profile and VTEC just roars and it's generally a noisy, blood pumping experience. None of this happens in GT5; it's just a boring rev climb. The numbers are all there though... lap times around tsukuba and suzuka and the nurburgring are spot on. Acceleration and braking is spot on. Handling is extremely dependent on the tires you use.
I drove, among other cars, the RX-8, 350Z and AP2 in real life and then drove them in GT5 and PD definitely captured the essence of those three cars. Driving them in game and real life wasn't the same, but it felt the same. And for that reason, you can factor in GT5 driving experiences to your real life car purchase.

I have drive both the AP1 and AP2 in stock trim in the game. I can say the AP2 is pretty spot on and the AP1 I think is lacking in the tail happy area. yeah it steps out but based on description of real life AP1 owners I would say it is not as sudden/violent.
But to get a feel for how a AP1 vs AP2 would drive, GT5 is pretty good in my book, but nothing beats real life!

my cousin had a 00, i have an 05, and my gf has an 07. I've pretty much driven every generation s2k and I can say that the AP1 is the most fun to drive when you're on it. the extra 1k makes a huge difference when you wanna have some fun in vtec. With my 8k redline now, I feel like I shift up too soon (even though it probably makes the same amount of power in those 2k as 3k in the ap1)
The 06+ models are AWESOME. DBW is seamless, very much unlike the DBW in my last car, an 06 civic si. traction control is there if you want it, and off at the touch of a button. The only real difference I can tell in the car is that the electronic throttle vs cable. electronic throttle makes the clutch pedal and accelerator very easy to press down. Not like it really matters, but some people have a preference of heavier pedal feel. For a DD, I think an 06+ AP2 is the best option. 06+ has the lucrative option of being able to use Hondata FlashPro if you plan to go FI
if you have any specific questions, let me know
I have GT5 but haven't really gotten into it because I play SSF4 more (if anyone wants to play on XBL, holla! ), but I don't think you should compare a car in a video game to a car in real life. It is not even a close representation

Two things...
First driving the S was such an emotional experience that I only seem to remember how I felt and have forgotten most of the technical aspects of driving it.
Second, ever have that old girlfriend that you had some good times and some bed times (lol, I meant bad times) with but looking back you kind of forget about the rotten times and just remember the good. Well I'm worried now a few years down the road I'm just remembering the good aspects of my S and have kind of forgotten about some of the bad things.
Such as the haters in the SUV on I-695 throwing empty soda bottles at me and my car.
also
My '02 had second gear grinding issues unless I perfectly rev matched it.
Those are some of the things I sort of forgot about over the years and I just kept remembering windy back country roads with the top down.
