If you learn to drive outside the US, this is THE way they teach you to stop on a hill. It REDUCES wear on the clutch, because you're not riding the clutch while you're stopped. It can't wear the brakes - you're not braking, you're stopped. Once you learn the technique (and it's easy to learn), you will NEVER roll backwards, not even an inch.

I've found the S to be the EASIEST manual I've ever driven. Maybe I'm nuts, but I would occassionally stall my celica after a year of ownership. I think I stalled the S once...ever.

I also found that the S was much easier to get moving on hills. The clutch seemed to catch early and in such a way that roll-back wasn't a terrible issue. Yeah, it was probably a little tougher on the clutch, but...

My first time attempting to drive stick was when I was 16 on the way back from my permit test. My dad pulls the 1993 honda accord wagon over and has me try it out. I have to say at 16 when you have never driven a car in your life it was hard. because I couldn't tell at all when the clutch was engaging...couldn't feel it. But once you've been driving any car...even if its not a manual its easy to learn manual. And if your worried about the clutch...I know its not the s2k...but the wagon has 230k miles on it and just got its factory clutch replaced...and thats with my dad driving it 120k miles...then me learning on it and driving it throughout the next 110k.(dad now has spa yellow s2k...2001) soon as I graduate from college (this year) ... guess what I want to start savin for... And yes, the first time on a hill was crazy..did the handbrake thing. And the next time I was on a hill I think I spun out cause I overcompensated. But IMO....its more fun. GL!!

with your little experience ... u'll not have more than a week to deal with the S2000
when i first drove my S2000 i was disappointed with it box of my small experience in the manual gears...
trust me u'll learn quickly and u'll love it (^_^)````

The S is my first manual car. And yes, it's a daily driver. 50 miles roundtrip, through LA traffic. It can be done, and it's not that bad. It's been about 1.5 months since I got my car, and I'm getting better with the manual, but still not perfect. Damn thing though is that when I wear sneakers, I'm totally fine, but when I'm wearing my dress shoes for work, I'm not as smooth. It's like I can't really feel the clutch and gas pedal well enough to get the modulation right.

The S was my first stick, and the vehicle that I was taught in. Basically, I was told at what point to shift at, and how to Work the clutch. Other than that, My mom rode with me for about 15 minutes on day one, and about 30 minutes on day two, practicing on our hill (for those times that you are on a hill at a stoplight 0_0)
and after that, I was driving just fine.
