s2k compared to a civic

Personally, I think the comparison of a S2000 to a Civic is valid to a certain extent, but is greatly exagerrated overall.
Under 4000 RPMs, the S2000 isn't exactly a raging beast, and I could see the acceleration being compared to a Civic. That is to say, a S2000 that is under 4000 RPMs and accelerating slowly might feel like a Civic that is accelerating moderately.
Over 4000 RPMs, however, I don't think the S2000 feels like a Civic at all. It accelerates much faster than a stock Civic at that point. Around 4000 RPMs is when the power in the S2000 starts feeling good to me.
That having been said, I don't see the point of this comparison. So the S2000 feels like a Civic at the low end...well a Supra TT feels just like any other 6-cylinder car at the low end...and so what?

I have owned 5 Civics since 91, including 2 SI models. One of the first things my wife and I concluded during the break in period where we didn't drive over 5k rpm's is that the S2k does not drive like a Civic at all. Above 6k rpm's the difference only becomes bigger.

I just traded in my "hooked up" 97' Civic EX for my 00' S... they dont feel the same in any gear or at any rpm. on interstate in my civic i always had to down shift to pass by people. in the S i just leave it in 6th.. fly right by em !
i mean, if it was a tuned Civic maybe ... B18 swap or forced induction.. but as far as a stock civic. no way.

I feel I can make an accurate comment on this topic. I recently had the pleasure and honor of test driving a 2001 s2000. The car I drive day in and day out is a 5spd 98 prelude. As many of you know this car is a good amount faster than a base civic, as well as the civic si, especially under vtec.
Anyways, I drove to the dealership in my prelude, got out and hopped into the s2000. I felt like I was driving my own car when it was under vtec, almost exactly the same feel. Until of course when vtec kicks in, completely different story. Vtec is just glorious in the s2000.
So basically i would say the s2000 under vtec is a 5th gen prelude, which as far as im concerned is no shame. When above 6500 rpms, its something completely different, so beautiful.
hope to get an s2k in the next couple years, its everything I want in a car....

I have a '95 civic ex coupe as my daily driver and to compare the two is ridiculous. My S2000 pulls much harder than my civic, even at low RPM's. The S2000 engine is 25% bigger and has lower gears so it's no surprise it's faster.
