My story is the same as dean29. I commute about 100 miles round trip to Winston Salem. I use my Tacoma for my daily driver but take the S2K about once a week.

As for that one day... I don't think I would mind taking it more or using it every day. My problem is that I tend to take two hour lunches when I have it at work. You understand... beautiful day, top down, etc, makes it hard to go back to work.

I commute about 17 miles each direction five days a week in the second worst traffic in the US, and I love it! Well, I don't love the traffic, but being in the S2000 makes it more bareable.

But if you don't enjoy driving, and don't enjoy being out in the elements, the S2000 may not be for you.

I put a lot of miles on my car and the noise of the car doesn't bother me at all. It's definitely louder than a luxury car, but I find that sitting in a quiet car is kind of boring. I need to have either the radio on or the sound of a good engine reving. There are even times when I'll turn the radio off so I can hear nothing but the engine. I think most guys have their radios blasting anyways so road or wind noise isn't a factor. As for stop and go traffic, it's not a big deal at all. I don't think about shifting when I drive. It's so automatic it's like breathing.

I drive 40 miles each way in Houston traffic and then I put on some more quality miles on the way home. I wouldn't want to be in any other car!

24K miles in 8 months and loving it!!! As opposed to Dean, it took me only 5 minutes to determine that I have to be in an S2000 whenever I'm driving. Everything else feels so sloppy in comparison. That analogy of "driving a boat" used to be applied to large domestic cars like Cadillacs and such. Now, they apply to everything but the S2000. I am biased but I don't understand how people can only drive this car on the weekends. This car just whispers VTEC in my ears all day long when I'm not in it.

To solve your noise problem you will have to buy an HKS Exhaust! At that point, you won't be able to hear anything except your own car VTECing all day long. It'll also save you money by not having to upgrade your stereo because you wont be able to listen to the radio anymore.

Buy the car to drive it like its meant to be driven. Real Hard!

My post was in reference to the fact that with the top down, all of the engine noises and whirs are not as present. When the top is up all of these engine sounds are reflected down and kept inside the passenger cabin. Of course, with the top down there are many more sounds to listen to. Such as the wonderful sound of air rushing into the airbox and passing through 6000 rpm on the way to 9000!

And I just wanted to add that I used to drive my car every day (50 miles each way) to/from work. I got the Maxima only because my car is leased, and I won't be keeping it when the lease runs out. I was putting a ton of miles on it. I had no problem driving it everyday, and as some others do, now that it is nice in NJ, I drive it once or twice a week to work.

If you really find the noise too much, just put the hardtop on and it becomes a pretty quiet ride.

With the weather as nice as it has been these days, I've been commutting daily in my "weekend" car (aka my S2000) I mus say hat it is a dream to commute in. I actually look forward to driving to and from work. I look at all thise fools in BMW's and Mercedes around the Silicon valley roads and just smile thinking, " how could they possibly stand driving with a roof ove their heads? =) " Anyways, I agree with Reed that the cabin noise is LESS with the top down in many cases. With my Mingster Aeroscreen, its just a perfect commute car. I think you'll be fine.
(only warning, driving the S2000 to work definitely increases the likelyhood of those two-hour lunches..especially here in the Bay area where several of us do it regularly and meet up for lunch. )
