Hmmm...be sure you'll be happy. I bought a new RSX earlier this year because it was well within my budget and I figured that if I ever wanted more anything, I'd just mod it...

Soon, I realized that it was nowhere near as fun as I would have liked it to be and after finding a new job and convincing my younger sister to take over payments, I made the jump

Originally, I had planned to get an ABP Type S...but for the price I'd pay on a new one, I could get a very good condition used S2000.

Anyhow...moral of the story is "be sure"

[Edit] Also, like Ed said...they're in totally different classes. Price, convertibleness, drivetrain...have you test-driven an S2000 or any convertible yet?

I'd always thought the convertible top wouldn't mean that much to me but now I wonder how I'd get along without it

[Edit 2] It looks like you can find some pretty reasonable prices on Type R's these days

i thought about those two cars as well when I bought mine. To me they are basically all I wanted in a car; you can drive them, pretty much stock, on the street everyday and really fast on the track.

What made me eliminate the R as a choice was that 1) I wouldn't trust buying one used since these cars are made to be abused, but I'd like to be the first to do the abusing and 2) the insurance is as much as/more than the S2000!

If I could find a good ITR, I'd be all over it.

If you want an economical convertible, you may also want to consider a used Toyota MR2 Spyder, which you could get for around or just under 20K. The MR2 isn't exceptionally fast, but it can do 0-60 in 6.8 For about 12-15K, you could get or make a used turbo'd Miata, which would be wicked fast (230HP, and 500lbs lighter than a S2000). Especially living in TX, I'd think a convertible would rock.

If all you care about is handling and "race car" feel, get the ITR. It definitely wins in that department.

yes, go drive one ASAP. It's a very raw race car. In japan they run 13s bone stock becaue they come with zero extra baggage. No A/C, no power steering, no power anything, no back seats...just meant to be tracked. Stock for stock the cars are very close in their track times, but for less than $1,000 in mods, the R is winning in every single category of performance, yes even in 1/4 mile acceleration.
