How is the 2 liter measurement determined?

The second question, do we know how Honda will increase the displacement from 2.0 to 2.2 liters?
I believe we are at a little less than 2 Liters or 2000 cubic centimeters. This measurement is the volume inside all 4 cylinders combined. Each cylinder then has approximatley 500 cubic centimeters of volume or displacement. To increase the volume the cylinder is bored out a little more. In this case 50 cubic centimeters for each cylinder for a total of 2200 cm^3. The cylinder walls on the F20C is supposed to be very thin as it is.

And to clarify, do you guys think that we'll see both different gearing for better acceleration and a displacement increase? Reading Barry's post on the previous page makes me think this increased torque is being claimed based on the gearing changes. And Blair's post says they might still call the car the S2000, so add both of those up and we could very well end up with changed gearing, same engine, new color, new interior bits, etc. I'm just wondering if this old displacement increase rumor got mixed in with the "real" announcement? Thoughts?
What I mean is, no an extra 200cc will NOT make the car faster. Most likely it will make Honda engineers lower the redline, and the result will be roughly the same hp output at a lower rpm. The increase in torque should not be significant either. My point was that why are people hyped for this possible increase in displacement? It's like this is the deciding factor for them, which it definately shouldn't be if they truly understand the meaning of the S2000. I'm sorry I wasn't clear, but Barry and Blair are having different say in this, so I was just talking about the people excited about the possible marketing strategy change, OOPs, I meant displacement change.

Also, I meant the "feel faster driving lazy" as in people complaining this car has no torque and is slow etc. The S2000 indeed can be very fast when driven properly, but I guess those people think having torque down low is everything. In that case, if they think the 200cc increase in displacement will help, whatever. It's like saying F1 cars are slow when driving around 3000RPM.

or they could do it like the prelude, accord, civic, ody and just keep the name with the power increase

Either way who cares, good by black 03 hello 04 if this is true.

but then again, doenst the s2000 really have a 1997cc engine? so does that mean that they really had plans to bring it out in 1997AD?

We're all assuming Honda will go with a larger bore instead of a stroke here. If this does indeed happen I'd bet on a longer stroke instead of a larger bore. But I'm just guessing of course.

One question though, if Honda chose to go with a larger bore why would it be necessary to reduce the redline? The piston speeds will be the same as long as the stroke doesn't change and the slight increase in mass of the piston is probably not that significant.

But, on a more positive note...

This may open up possibilities of future engine swaps, parts sharing, etc...
