S2000's not safe...

Let me fire up my crack stem one more time before I tell you how dangerous cigarette smoking and drinking watered down booze is!. Point is that just about everything you do in life has some element of danger. Why not just live in a Detox permanently? I was quite safe when they placed me in detox, three meals a day (salisbury steak was my favorite) hot showers, TV and Monopoly. I prefer to live a little closer to the edge and enjoy life rather than worrying about some dumbass question like if my car has a high crash rating!!!

I live in LA and put up with the same crazy drivers that you do. I think the S2K is one of the safest cars out there. A lot of worrying about SUV's can be avoided if you know how to drive properly and put your car in the best defensive driving position.
As far as accidents in the S2K, if you look at the passenger compartment, and not at the wreckage, you will see that it retains it's shape well and protects the driver.

If you want a safe car get a god damn VOLVO
On the other hand my total troubles with Hondas (three bikes, Civic S, Civic EX, and Accord before my S2000) have been absolutely nothing beyond regular maintenance. And I had almost 300,000 on the Accord.
Avoid Volvo

Since the majority of vehicle crashes involve just a single vehicle, the stiff and rigid SUVs don't fare as well against that tree as an S would! In addition to all the other technological and driving behavior factors already mentioned, I would conclude that, driven safely, the S would be safer than the vast majority of the vehicles on the road today in the vast majority of accident situations.

The S2000 got a 4 out of 5 star rating in recent EU testing, quite up there with any other modern car. The only negative comment was that the S2000 is not very good in terms of pedestrian safety, i.e. if you hit a person. Honda has stated that this is because this aspect was not high on the list for any of their cars when the S2000 was designed, but it is in newer models. But it's quite safe - for safe drivers, that is.
