Btw, what price range are you looking at? I've been considering selling mine. As stated above, it's a '02, 48k miles, sebring silver. PM me if interested. I'm in San Jose. I'm looking to get either a 4WD/AWD vehicle or a Supra TT, so any deal that involves either would be great as well.

Regarding the salvaged car...it's true that you never fully know what you're getting with a salvaged car. But, if it's really *a lot* cheaper than a car with a clean title, then I'd at least give it some consideration. See if you can have a shop check out the mechanical parts and also the frame. The main thing to keep in mind is that it will probably be hard to sell the car later on. Of course, if you plan on keeping the car for a while and driving it into the ground, then that might not matter much. IMO, sometimes the money saved is worth the risk of purchasing a salvaged car.

Everyday I hear about what a marginal vehicle the MY 00's are; much of it coming from people that have never even ridden in one. In 39 months of ownership, I've had one unscheduled trip to the dealer - for the sparkplug update. I almost bought into the "sky is falling" mentality and purchased an extended warranty just based on the gloom and doom on this board.

My engine may seize up tomorrow, but not because it's a 2000 model. In my opinion most failures are owner induced. The remainder may be attributed to the fact that we operate a very high performance engine without the mechanical reserve of most passenger car motors. I don't think these failures are more common in 00 and 01's. I may be wrong, but I'll believe hard numbers before I believe the gross amount of anecdotal evidence and presumptions made on this board daily. Until then, I'll be motoring happily in my MY 00.

I just got a MY00 a few months ago and I just passed the 3 year old mark a few days ago. 27k miles and doing just fine! I didn't get an extended warranty because I don't believe that I will need it, but only time will tell...

My '00 is one of the earliest production examples, built in July 1999. 25K and 4+ years later, no probs except occasional 1-2 grind.

I've got a few rattles and interesting noises in my 55k mile MY00 car, but I'll attribute that mainly to lack of sound insulation and ragtop.

No unscheduled trips to the $tealer yet, except for the 2003 summer seatbelt recall.

Purchased an '00 in Nov '99 and have 66k + miles on it. Just got back from a 4600 mile trip from Dallas to San Francisco and back. Haven't had any problems with it that I didn't cause myself. (Other owners have had diff issues, 2nd gear grind issues, numbeer 4 cylinder issues, loose spark plug issues, and wear holes in the top issues.) Look for evidence that the spark plug recall has been done. (My dealer put stickers in the engine bay, some will have them in the owner's manual.) Take it to redline in 1st and see how it shifts into 2nd. Look for wear on the inside of the top just behind the B-pillars. Not much else besides cosmetic stuff that you can easily check out, I think.

Oh, and I had the rear wheel buhs re-greased because they were making some noise.
