10,000 plus is not limited.
Yall can chirp all you want about chassis rigidity and old rear ends -- but the M roadster is not only faster from the stoplight it is faster on the road course. Yes I have driven both on the track (although I own an M coupe, not the roadster) -- E30 rear end or not the M is more stable into and out of the turns -- and does not require 100 shifts per lap ..... how

Here are the current heavy hitters:
AMG SLK32: 354hp
BMW Z3M: 315hp
Here's what is in the pipeline and will debut in 2003:
Porsche Boxster S: 290hp
Nissan 350Z Convertible: 300hp
and possibly even a V6 Miata.

Probably depends on the road course + driver, but the last R&T comparo had the S2K turning the fastest lap times. Anyway, I don't think lap times were mentioned as an aspect of the racecar like feel - I was merely referring to the 9K rpm redline, toggle switch shifter, F1-insprired instrumentation, and ultra-rigid chassis that are unique to the S2K vs. it's competition. Racecars typically shift a lot, so I think that adds to the experience, too. BTW, I have plenty of track and racing exp., but bought the S2K for fun, not for lap times.

Except possibly for the Nissan, those cars are enough more expensive than the S2000 to really price them out of competition. For example, there's already the Porsche 911 Cab and the Mercedes SL600 and BMW Z8, all convertibles with a good bit more hp than the S2000, but I don't recall them ever put on the same list... Sure, Honda would really have to go to work to up the hp, but they don't need to up the hp. The S2000's price/performance point alone means that Honda doesn't have to do anything to ensure continuing sales.
$50k+ machines are not a threat. If, by some miracle, GM comes out with some sort of 300hp, lightweight, great handling, reliable drop top for low $30k's, we'd have something to worry about. So obviously we have nothing to worry about.

BTW, a friend just bought a Honda NSR 250 - a Japanese market 2 stroke, technically illegal for street use in the states. You practically have to dump the clutch to 7K just to get going, but it's really quick when you're on the pipe, and handles like a dream. Very tiny and impractical, but it's created a HUGE smile on my face when I've ridden it! It's ultra-trick, too, w/ a single sided swingarm, credit card ignition key (which can apparently be reprogrammed to change the ignition maps, etc.), and magnesium wheels.

as it's been said, enjoy the car for what it is. the fun factor on the S along with great performane and stellar handling (no lean) are unmatched ,even in the higher price groups it does'nt get much better unless your a serious driver on the edge, and most of us are not.factor in cost, honda quality and price. i have a 00 vette.z51 handling pkg, after market induction/exhaust,making upwards of 385 hp at the flywheel.along with our(wife & me)00 S-2000.my wife drive's the S mostly. i have thought seriously sometime's of selling my vette for a 02 S-2,hp does'nt play a big part ,the S is more of a sport's car then the vette, less hp but more agility as a rodester, which it was originally intended to be...my .02.
no flame's from my vette folk if your reading.....the greatest american sport's car & keep's getting better.
tripp.
